Pawsperity is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). The ACCSC is recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education as a reliable authority concerning the quality of education or training offered by the institutions it accredits. ACCSC’s mission is to ensure quality education that enhances student success in the workforce. For Pawsperity, it has been imperative to attain and commit to this level of accreditation to ensure our program continues to be as impactful as possible for our students.

Pawsperity’s Professional Grooming Program consists of five five-week courses, with a pre-requisite Introduction to Grooming: Bathing & Brushing Course required prior to admission.

 

Learning Objectives By Course

Introduction to Clipper Work

Learning Objectives

  • Students will demonstrate the ability to implement the Pawsperity Bathing Process on 6-8 dogs per day.
  • Students will demonstrate basic clipper work skills and techniques including paw pads and sanitary trims.
  • Students will identify and execute basic clipper maintenance skills including cleaning and oiling blades; and changing blade drives.
  • Students will identify and distinguish basic blade lengths.
  • Students will execute the process of making appointments and input client information within the point-of-sale system Gingr.
  • Students will demonstrate the capacity to execute basic customer service skills.
  • Students will implement the Pawsperity grooming process with self-sufficiency and time awareness.

Introduction to Scissor Work and Grooming the Full Anatomy

Learning Objectives

  • Students will learn and implement breed pattern trims.
  • Students will learn how to correctly check-in a dog and maintain accurate grooming notes.
  • Students will learn comb attachment lengths.
  • Students will learn basic scissor techniques and maintenance.
  • Students will be able to successfully complete a breed standard test on a double coated breed.

Scissor Work and Grooming the Full Anatomy

Learning Objectives

  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of advanced clipper work.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of breed standard trims.
  • Students will attend informational sessions.
  • Students will demonstrate a job ready disposition.
  • Students will work with an employment specialist to practice for and participate in interview preparation and mock interviews.
  • Students will be able to successfully complete breed standard tests for a Shih Tzu and Goldendoodle.

Advanced Grooming Techniques

Learning Objectives

  • Students will be able to complete 3-4 haircuts a day.
  • Students will complete a “Business of Grooming” practical.
  • Students will be able to successfully complete breed standard tests for a Yorkshire Terrier.
  • Students will complete a resume that displays their skills as a groomer.
  • Students will complete a Small Tools written test.

Breed Standards

Learning Objectives

  • Students will develop their speed with clipper work.
  • Students will be able to work at a speed with scissor work/finish work.
  • Students will be assessed on their ability to maintain accurate grooming notes.
  • Students will be able to groom 5-6 dogs per day.
  • Students will successfully complete their breed standard practical tests on a Terrier, Cocker Spaniel, and Standard Poodle.
  • Students will successfully complete 2 paper tests (1 hour to complete).
  • Students will interview for grooming jobs.
