A Note from Natasha

The last of summer is upon us. Days are slowly getting shorter, and glimmers of cooler temperatures have been sprinkled here and there. I know many of you are gearing up for another school year with your kids, and before we know it, fall will be here.

We often get asked where we find our students. We have a staff member who works on outreach within the community as well as networking with many of our Kansas City partners. These partners have social workers or case managers who may be helping individuals and their families in other ways, such as at a homeless shelter. They know about our program and may run across someone to recommend to us who is a possible good fit.

Unfortunately, our students come to us from a variety of trauma-filled situations, including homelessness, incarceration, addiction, and domestic violence. What ties them all together is that they are all entrenched in poverty. They also want to make a change. Our program is very extensive and 7 months long. Due to issues such as transportation, childcare, and housing, we often spend a good bit of time helping students become stable before they even enter our program. While our school is open to both men and women, we do prioritize single parents with young children.

Our tuition-free opportunity can be a great option with many perks such as an onsite food pantry, housing only a couple blocks from our school, and so much more. If you know of someone who may be a candidate, please direct them to our website’s application page here. They can also reach out with questions to our Recruitment and Admissions Specialist, Alli, at arhone@pawsperity.org. Thanks for your continued support!
